Another major aspect of the decision-making process is development of policies and guidelines used in healthcare. These range from operational standards to organizational culture and structure. Currently, healthcare organizations are tasked with adopting effective standards of practice aimed at promoting the welfare of the patients (Oliver, Lorenc, & Innvaer, 2014). During the process of policy making, a crucial phase is deliberating on presented issues based on one’s knowledge. However, effective policy making is centered on evidence obtained in relation to a particular issue.

Modernity in healthcare is characterized by several aspects among them the use of knowledge to make organizational decisions while averting possible challenges such as errors. In medicine, making clinical decisions correlates with evidence rather than existing theoretical foundation (DiCenso, Guyatt, & Ciliska, 2014). In the current society, one of the major transformation and dynamics is the use of research knowledge. This transcends to the importance of studies in the establishment of effective healthcare strategies. There are different approaches in conducting these studies which are distinguished based on the method of collecting the data such as qualitative and quantitative models. While qualitative model entails theoretical knowledge and establishment of new details on a particular topic, quantitative model entails establishing a hypothesis and using the obtained data to either prove or nullify the hypothesis. Knowledge and evidence, in this case, are related to the need to have substantial evidence from research to assert on a given set of information from a theoretical foundation.
